New York Paid Family Leave (PFL) is now a state-mandated paid leave benefit. All private-sector employers employing workers in New York State must provide this benefit as of January 1, 2018.

The law advises that PFL will be employee-funded by employee payroll deductions. There is no fixed rate for PFL coverage, it is based on the employee’s salary. The weekly contribution rate for PFL is 0.126% of the employee’s weekly wage, capped at $1.65 per week per employee for 2018 (regardless of gender, age or other factors). You need to contact your payroll company regarding the deductions.
The majority of our customers have their DBL insurance placed with The Hartford. Hartford has advised that they will automatically be adding PFL coverage to all New York State DBL policies effective January 1, 2018. The premium for this new coverage will be included on your 2018 DBL bill.
As always, we appreciate your business and are here to help you and your employees. Please contact us should you have any questions on this new benefit.
